Bring-your-own database in 5 commands

By Anders · Mar 30, 2026 · 6 min read

Data sovereignty is not a checkbox. It is a structural commitment to keeping your business data on infrastructure you approve.

What BYO means

BYO-database means your tenant’s business data lives in a PostgreSQL or MySQL instance you own — in your cloud account, your data centre, or a hosted provider of your choosing. We never have read access to it. Our engine talks to it via a connector you configure and rotate.

The 5 commands

Set up a database, run our schema migration tool, configure the connector in the tenant settings, validate the connection, and set the isolation mode. The validation step confirms schema version, connectivity, and latency — if it passes, you’re live.

Security model

The connector uses a dedicated service account with least-privilege grants (INSERT/UPDATE on business tables, SELECT on audit views). Credentials are stored in your secret manager, not ours — we hold only a reference. Rotation is triggered from the tenant settings with zero downtime.
